A past prize-winner in the Pacific Northwest Guitar Competition, Brad Mahon has been described as “an outstanding classical guitarist” ( 20th Century Guitar magazine, New York) and “a very accomplished performer” (CBC Radio, Canada), while his concert performances have been reviewed as “Impressive” ( Calgary Herald ) and “a delightful musical night and great spectacle for the audience” ( Baiao Noticia , Portugal). His diverse recording portfolio — comprising commercial CD releases as well as made-for-radio broadcasts — includes the solo efforts, Six Strings (2005) and Classic Melodies (2006), as well as his most recent release, Music of Our Time with the Oberon Guitar Trio (2010).
Formed in 2007, the Oberon Guitar Trio—Brad Mahon, Murray Visscher, and Ralph Maier—have quickly become one of Canada's most recognizable ensembles. A sought-after ensemble player, Brad has also been a featured soloist with the Calgary Civic Symphony (Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez ), Players' Chamber Ensemble (Boccherini's Quintet G.448 ), Festival Chorus (major works for guitar and chorus), and a collaboration appearing on the Land's End Chamber Ensemble CD that won the 2006 Western Canadian Music Award for Best Classical Recording (“the full five stars” – Sound Advice ).
Brad is currently preparing for a 2011 recording project with Ontario guitarist, Patrick Feely. Brad and Pat met through their mutual association as examiners with the Royal Conservatory of Music and formed the East West Guitar Duo in 2009.
