EDUCATOR 

As an educator , Brad Mahon has been a member of the music faculty at Mount Royal University since 1997 where he instructs guitar, coaches ensembles, and administrates the Guitar Academy and String Program. The Guitar Academy program targets ambitious young players seeking an intensive pre-university/preparatory curriculum that focuses on performance development and ensemble playing. His students have received scholarships, awards, and prizes at local, provincial, and national music festival competitions and have been accepted into post-secondary music programs in both the United States and across Canada. Auditions are held annually in May.

Brad also holds the position of Adjunct Professor of Music at Ambrose University where he has headed the guitar program since 2004. Ambrose University offers fully accredited Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts in Music degrees. Guitar majors have the opportunity to pursue greater technical facility, stronger theoretical understanding, heightened musicianship, performance development, and ensemble playing studying classical, acoustic/fingerstyle, or electric genres. Auditions are held annually each spring.

A sought-after teacher, Brad is also a part-time music history professor with the University of Calgary, Boston University (online), and the University of Lethbridge, and he is a member of the College of Examiners with Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music.

As an adjudicator, Brad Mahon is a popular, habitual judge at music festivals across Canada and has chaired the committee responsible for selecting guitar repertoire for the Alberta Provincial Music Festival Syllabus since 2002.
